4 Cap de Nice coastal path

Sunset view from Castle Hill overlooking Nice and Baie des Anges

Start from the port, walk towards Coco Beach, and keep going along the rocks. The path winds along the water, skirting cliffs, with the sea right below you. It feels wild. You can sit on the rocks at the tip of the Cap and watch the sun drop straight into the water. Almost nobody here at sunset. Bring a warm layer, it gets breezy once the sun is low.

📍 From Port de Nice, walk east along the coastal path towards Coco Beach
🚶 15-20 min walk from the port
💰 Free
👀 West over the sea, wild rocky coast

5 La Reserve

Rocky coastal path at Cap de Nice at golden hour with sun setting into sea

Just past the port, before Cap de Nice. A flat rocky area where locals come to swim during the day and watch the sunset in the evening. Less known than Castle Hill, more chill than the Promenade. You sit on the rocks with the water lapping below. Bring a bottle and a bluetooth speaker if that's your thing. This is where Nice feels like a small town, not a tourist destination.

📍 After Port de Nice, towards Rauba Capeu / Coco Beach
🚶 10 min walk from the port
💰 Free
👀 West + south, sea level

6 Bellanda Tower

Sunset view from Castle Hill overlooking Nice and Baie des Anges

Small viewing platform at the edge of Old Town, on the Promenade side of Castle Hill. Uninterrupted west-facing view where Nice meets the sea. Fewer people than the main Castle Hill viewpoint because most tourists walk right past it. The platform is small (maybe 20 people fit), so it keeps a quiet feel. Best for couples or solo watchers.

📍 Edge of Old Town, on Promenade des Anglais near Castle Hill stairs
🚶 5 min walk
💰 Free
👀 Direct west, elevated

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month for sunsets in Nice?

June to August for the latest sunsets (around 9pm). September for the best light (golden, warm, less haze). The sun sets over the sea year-round since Nice faces south-southwest.

Is Castle Hill crowded at sunset?

In summer, yes. The main viewpoint gets packed from 30 minutes before sunset. Go to the east side (towards the port) for a quieter spot. Or skip it and go to Mont Boron instead.

Can you watch the sunset from the beach?

Yes. The Promenade des Anglais blue chairs face west. Grab a rose from a nearby caviste, sit on the pebbles, and watch. Simplest way to do it and it's free.

Are there paid sunset experiences?

Rooftop bars (€15-22 per cocktail) and sunset boat cruises (from €59 per person) are the main paid options. Everything else on this list is free.
