Maritime-inspired design, carefully crafted cocktails in the €18 to €22 range. It's expensive. Is it worth it at sunset? Absolutely. On a random Tuesday afternoon? Probably not. Save it for when the light is right.

3 Moon Bar (Aston La Scala)

Spread across the 7th and 8th floors of the Aston La Scala, right on Place Massena. Panoramic view over the square, Old Town rooftops, and the sea beyond. The most affordable hotel rooftop on this list: cocktails around €14 to €18. Good for lunch too. The terrace faces south and west, so you get sun from noon until sunset. Popular with locals, not just tourists.

5 Farago on the Roof (AC Hotel Marriott) TEMPORARILY CLOSED

⚠️ Temporarily closed. When open: 7th floor, with a view over the port, towards Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Different perspective from the Promenade rooftops: you see the yachts, the hill of the castle, and the coast stretching east. Mediterranean tapas and creative cocktails. Open later than most hotel rooftops, which makes it a good option for after-dinner drinks.

6 Bocca Nissa

Not a hotel rooftop. Independent terrace with panoramic city views, tapas bar, relaxed atmosphere. More of a city skyline than a sea panorama. The vibe is less corporate than the hotel options. You order small plates (tapas, planches) and share. Cocktails are a bit cheaper. The crowd is younger and louder. If you want a rooftop experience without the stiff hotel energy, this is the pick.

7 Rooftop Monsigny

7th floor, seasonal opening May to September. The most "summer only" option on this list. Smaller terrace with city views (not sea-facing). Fewer tables, more intimate. It gets busy precisely because it's only open 5 months a year. When it's open, it's one of the better choices for a casual evening drink. When it's closed, you go somewhere else.

• Best time: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset. Check sunset time on your phone. In June it's around 9pm, in September around 7:30pm.
• Dress code: Hotel rooftops = smart casual minimum. No flip-flops, no shorts. Bocca Nissa and Monsigny are more relaxed.
• Reservations: For Friday/Saturday sunset in summer, book ahead at La Terrasse and SEEN. Everything else is usually walk-in.
