A 4-star room in Cannes during Film Festival can run €1,200 a night. The same standard in Nice runs €300. The train between the two takes 30 minutes. If you are not on the red carpet every night, basing yourself outside Cannes is the smart move. Below: the real price comparison, the three towns worth considering, and the train logistics nobody warns you about.
Typical saving by staying in Nice

The 4 zones to consider
Cannes itself
The full festival immersion. Walking distance to the Palais, the Croisette beach clubs, the late-night yacht harbour. The trade-off: €500 to €4,000+ per night, 6-month booking window, 7-night minimums on Airbnb. Hotel Martinez, Carlton, Majestic, JW Marriott are the established festival hotels.
Antibes and Juan-les-Pins
15 minutes from Cannes by train. Less photogenic than Cannes itself but cheaper, calmer, and home to one of the Riviera’s best food scenes. Juan-les-Pins has its own beach club nightlife. Useful for industry guests who want some distance from the chaos.
Nice
30 minutes by train, 40 to 60 percent cheaper accommodation, real city infrastructure, better restaurant density. The smart base for anyone not doing multiple late Croisette nights. Stay near Place Massena, Old Town or Nice-Ville station for the easiest commute.
Le Cannet, Mougins, Mandelieu
The peri-Cannes villages, 5 to 15 minutes by car or bus. Cheaper hotels and B&Bs (€100 to €280 / night). Less tram and train access. Worth it if you have a car. Le Cannet is a 10-minute taxi or 25-minute walk into Cannes.

Train and transport logistics
- Nice-Ville to Cannes: 30 minutes by TER, every 15 to 20 min during festival. Around €8 single. Trains run until around midnight.
- Antibes to Cannes: 15 minutes, every 15 to 20 min. Around €4 single.
- Nice Airport to Cannes: 40 minutes by train via Nice-Ville, or direct shuttle bus from Terminal 2 (1h, €22). Helicopter from Nice Airport to Cannes-Mandelieu in 6 minutes from approximately €130 pp each way.
- Sunday late-night return: Palme d’Or night (Sat 23 May) trains are packed from midnight. Pre-book a taxi back or stay in Cannes that one night.
- Driving: not recommended. Festival road closures + parking premium of €30 to €60 / day make it slower than the train.
- You have industry access and multiple late nights. Walking back to your hotel in 8 minutes vs taking a 30-minute train is the difference between making 3 parties and making 1.
- You are doing the Palme d’Or weekend on the Croisette. Sat 23 May is the worst night to be commuting back.
- You have a yacht moored in Vieux Port. Stay walking distance from your boat.
- Your firm pays. Optics of the Carlton beat optics of a Nice 4-star for client meetings.
- Best Parties at Cannes Film Festival 2026: yacht parties, beach clubs, nightclubs.
- Yacht Charter for Cannes Festival: 4 tiers, real prices, mooring fees.
- Cannes Film Festival 2026 Guide: dates, lineup, how to attend.
- Best Services for Cannes Film Festival: VIP support.
- Stay in Nice for Monaco Grand Prix: same logic, GP weekend (4-7 June).
- Best Rooftop Bars in Nice: where to go after the train back.
